📢 Important Information for Macon County School System Families
Beginning this school year, the Macon County School System will fully implement Georgia House Bill 1009, a new state law requiring public schools to maintain a distraction-free learning environment by restricting the use of personal electronic devices during the school day.
In compliance with state law, all K–12 students are prohibited from using personal electronic devices from arrival until dismissal. This includes cell phones, smart glasses, smart watches used for communication, earbuds, and similar devices. Personal electronic devices must be powered off and stored completely out of sight throughout the school day.
Students with documented accommodations or medical needs under IDEA, ADA, or Section 504 will be permitted access to devices as required by their individualized plans.
Parents and guardians may communicate with students through the school’s front office in the event of an emergency or other important need.
Students who violate the requirements of Georgia House Bill 1009 and district procedures will be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the Macon County School System Code of Conduct.
