The Macon County School System does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, or in any educational program or activity or in employment policies. It is the policy of the Board of Education to comply fully with the requirements of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and all accompanying regulations.

Title IX

MACON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education program and activities, as required by Title IX. Such requirement to prohibit discrimination extends to enrollment and employment. As required by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, MACON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM prohibits all unlawful discrimination, harassment and retaliation on the basis of sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation in any employment decision, enrollment determination, education program or educational activity.

Effective August 14, 2020, pursuant to federal regulations implementing Title IX, any complaint involving “sexual harassment” as defined by those federal regulations that occurs in any Macon County School System education program or activity against a person in the United States shall be addressed pursuant to the Macon County School System Title IX Grievance Procedure.

All K-12 employees are now mandatory reporters; for Title IX purposes, meaning all reports of sexual harassment made to any employee must be promptly reported to the Title IX coordinator. This includes reports to bus drivers, cafeteria workers, school counselors, etc. No K-12 employees can act as a confidential resource for purposes of Title IX. It also means that K-12 employees will now be mandatory reporters, both for child abuse and Title IX.

A person may also file a complaint with the appropriate federal, state, or local agency within the time frame required by law. Depending upon the nature of the complaint, the appropriate agency may be the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Department of Education, the Department of Justice, and/or the Georgia Department of Education.
