Welcome to the MCMS Library/Media Center (LMC). In addition to providing a wide selection of reading and research materials for your child, the LMC provides a variety of other functions designed to help your child succeed and become lifelong learners.
Students have access to Renaissance Learning myON, which is a personalized digital library that gives them access to more than 7,000 enhanced digital books. Titles are matched to each individual student’s interests, grade and reading level. MCMS students also participate in the Renaissance Learning Accelerated Reader program to help with improving reading and comprehension.
In addition to the media center, the media specialist and support staff also manage all of the Chromebooks, laptops, instructional flat panels, and other technology in the building.
While regular class visits are scheduled, students may also visit the media center individually. They are expected to have a completed and signed media center pass with them at the time of their visit.
Students may check out one book at a time. Books are checked out for a period of two weeks. When they have an overdue book, students are only permitted to check out books from the non-circulating collection of reading materials or use Renaissance Learning myOn.
Each student is provided with a Chromebook to use only on campus during the school day. Students will pick up these devices during homeroom and return them at the end of the day. Parents/guardians and students must sign an ECF Student Laptop Agreement prior to students' use of a device. Students are required to report any Chromebook damage/other issues to the media center staff immediately. Students also have access to computers in the media center for school project printing needs.
PLAY card connects students to their public library. The program is a great way to strengthen relationships between public libraries and the schools and communities they serve.
PINES Library Access for Youth (PLAY) is a student library card developed by Georgia Public Library Service. PLAY gives youth access to their local public library and the tools they need to build literacy skills. It is a statewide initiative, but individual library and school systems forge local agreements for their community. PLAY’s ability to provide students with additional learning resources serves an essential role in their education. Teachers can use PLAY to bridge the gap when their schools do not have certain materials for a standard or curriculum. Students and parents/guardians can have access to countless reading and resource materials in 300 Georgia library branches and affiliated service outlets. PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services) is Georgia’s 'borderless library' system that allows PINES card holders free access to books and other materials. Use the links below to learn more about the PINES system and how to get your own PINES public library card. Or if you prefer, visit your local public library to learn more.
