Macon County Middle School’s Peer Leader Organization is a variety of supportive services initiated by peers in a variety of settings. Often described as Peers Helping Peers, Peer Leaders frequently become preventive agents who identify problems and encourage others to seek the necessary help from the appropriate school staff. Peer Leaders are students in our learning environment who serve in a leadership capacity, which enables them to help others.
The Peer Leader Organization provides students with opportunities for learning, guidance, emotional support and growth, which translate into reduced drug and alcohol involvement, higher academic skills, reduced conflict, increased understanding of differences and increased services to others. By helping others, Peer Leaders often increase their own self-esteem and personal functioning. They hold the following characteristics:
- Positive role models
- Responsible
- Good grades
- Good school attendance
- Well-groomed
- Caring
- Compassionate
- Maintains confidentiality
- Respectful
Additionally, Peer Leaders help the Sponsor with different events and activities throughout the school year. Peer Leaders meet as a group twice a month for about an hour to prepare for upcoming events. Ms. Kelley Jackson, Counselor, serves as the Sponsor.
