Recently, the Macon County Middle School and Macon County High School Counseling Departments partnered together to offer the PSAT to any interested 6-8th graders.

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation  in the United States. Approximately 3.5 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT each year. Approximately, 1.59 million high school sophomores and 1.55 million high school juniors took the PSAT last year. Younger students are also eligible to take the test. The scores from the PSAT/NMSQT are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Macon County Middle School students were encouraged to take the test to get a better understanding of what the test questions are like, to ensure that students are introduced to national tests before they reach high school and to make sure students are college and career ready. The PSAT is generally given to 10th grade students nationwide. There were fifteen middle school students who participated in this PSAT session.
